Dave Grohl and Elton John On Late Night... 12 Years Apart

British rock icon Elton John stopped by E! late night show Chelsea Lately earlier this week for a brief chat with guest host Dave Grohl. John disclosed a recent recording session on the impending Queens of the Stone Age release and his management of the Irish band The Strypes.
In a way that makes Long After Dark’s long-term memory capacity a bit frightening, the late night moment provided a bit of a snapshot of how far Dave Grohl has come.
In February 2001, Grohl was riding the success of the Foo Fighters’ third album There’s Nothing Left To Lose and performed a light take of John’s “Tiny Dancer” on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn.  Nine months later Grohl was on the The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, discussing the Grammys and cracking jokes about sitting next to Elton John and making fun of the darker side of the Brit’s songwriting.
Fast forward 12 years later, Grohl has achieved continued success with the Foo Fighters, his Sound City documentary has been placed in the Sundance Film Festival, he is writing songs with Paul McCartney, and is now on a different side of the late night couch while interviewing Elton John.
